School Choice Is Growing. Are Christian Schools Ready?

The conversation around school choice continues to gain momentum across the United States.

This week, the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) launched its "Every Student. Every State." campaign following passage of the new federal Education Freedom Tax Credit. Beginning in 2027, participating states may allow taxpayers to receive a tax credit for donations supporting scholarships that help families access private and Christian schools.

For many Christian schools, this could be one of the most significant opportunities in years.

But increased access also raises an important question.

Are Christian schools prepared for the opportunities that growth may bring?

Enrollment growth is exciting. More students mean more families hearing the gospel, stronger financial sustainability, and greater influence within local communities.

But growth also requires preparation.

Schools need teachers who are committed to discipleship.

They need systems that help new families feel welcomed.

They need clear communication, strong leadership, and a mission that remains central as enrollment expands.

Christian education has never been about simply offering an alternative to public education. It's about partnering with Christian families to help students discover their identity and purpose in Christ.

That mission becomes even more important as schools welcome families from a wider variety of backgrounds.

Some may have attended Christian schools before. Others may be exploring faith-based education for the very first time.

Each family arrives with different expectations, questions, and experiences.

That means Christian schools must communicate clearly about who they are, what they believe, and why they exist.

Mission clarity matters.

So does operational excellence.

Schools experiencing growth should evaluate everything from admissions processes to parent communication, classroom capacity, and faculty development.

Growth without preparation can create unnecessary strain.

Growth with intentionality creates lasting impact.

As education continues to evolve, Christian schools have an opportunity to demonstrate something unique.

Not simply academic excellence.

Not simply affordability.

But a community where students are known, encouraged, challenged, and discipled every day.

Programs and policies may open doors.
