Financial Aid

We hope that you share in the mission and vision of BG Christian and that you are ready to make the investment in Christian education, not only financially, but with time, service, and prayer. To help qualifying families, we have listed below the current opportunities we provide for Financial Aid including scholarships and tuition assistance.

Please see the descriptions and links below for more information and contact our Admissions Office at admissions@bgchristian.org  or 419-354-2422 with any questions.

EdChoice Scholarship:

The "Traditional" EdChoice Scholarship program was created to offer students from underperforming public schools the opportunity to attend participating private schools for little or no cost. K-12th grade students from designated public schools qualify for these scholarships if they are entering BG Christian Academy as a NEW STUDENT.  The 2024-2025 list of designated schools can be found HERE. Proof of address is required as part of the application.

EdChoice also offers an “Expansion" Scholarship that is available to incoming Kindergarten through 12th grade students. ALL Ohio families qualify for a full or partial scholarship depending on their household income. See the chart below to see if you qualify. This scholarship requires both proof of address AND income verification as part of the application.

The full scholarship amount for Traditional and Expansion is currently $6,166 for grades K-8 and $8,408 for grades 9-12. EdChoice will pay either the scholarship amount or the private school's actual tuition amount, whichever is less.

All first-time EdChoice Expansion applicants must have their income verified by the Office of Nonpublic
Educational Options. EdChoice Expansion Scholarships are awarded based on the Adjusted Gross
Income (AGI) of a family’s household.
If a family’s household income is at or below 450 percent of the
Federal Poverty Level, they will be awarded the maximum scholarship amount. If a family’s household
income is at or above 451 percent of the Federal Poverty Level, the student’s scholarship award will be
prorated based on their specific percentage of the Federal Poverty Level. See the Award Amounts Chart for the specific dollar amounts of each percentage level.

New families must have "Enrolled” status with the school which includes:

  • A completed Admissions Application

  • Supporting admissions documents (birth cert., ss card, immunization record)

  • Entrance Assessment

  • New Family Conference

  • A completed Enrolment Packet

The application window for these scholarships will open February 1st, 2024 and remain open through June 30th, 2025. Eligible families will submit these applications through the school. NOTE: Any application submitted after October 14th, 2024 will be awarded at a prorated amount based on how much of the school year remains.

The scholarship amount covers tuition ONLY. Parents/guardians will still have to pay application/enrollment fee, class fee, and any other similar types of fees. Families who qualify for low income status (at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level) will not have to pay any tuition that is not covered by the scholarship. However, if the private school's tuition is higher than the EdChoice Scholarship amount and the family does not qualify for low income status, the family will be responsible for the difference.

Steps to apply for the EdChoice Scholarship:

  1. Confirm that your student has "Enrolled" status for the upcoming school year.

  2. Review the FPL chart above and check the NEW Award Amount Chart or that your local school building is on the list of Designated Schools

  3. Complete the Scholarship Request Form

  4. Submit Request Form along with a copy of the student's birth certificate and proof of address to edchoice@bgchristian.org or drop it off at our Lower Campus office.

Ohio Christian Education Network SGO:

Enrolled BG Christian K-12 students are eligible to apply for the Ohio Christian Education Network Scholarship Granting Organization (OCEN SGO) Scholarship. These scholarships are funded through the generous gifts of members of our school community for the purpose of making high quality, distinctively Christian, education more accessible to families.

While all enrolled students are eligible to apply for and receive a scholarship, awards will be prioritized for students with a demonstrated financial need first, and award amounts may vary. This year's first round of online applications opens December 1st, 2023 and closes February 1st, 2024. There is no cost to apply, and funds may be used toward tuition as well as class fees. Scholarships will be awarded in April 2024 through the organization. A second round of applications will be announced at a later date.

Regardless of where you fall on the income scale, we are strongly encouraging EVERY BG Christian family with a K-12 student to apply. These funds can be used for any difference in tuition versus scholarship, as well as class fees.

The Linette Butler Scholarship:

Linette Butler was a BG Christian Academy student who passed away from cancer in 2002 during her seventh grade year. Family and friends wishing to honor her memory contributed money towards the goal of providing scholarships given in her name. The scholarship was established by Tim and Deb Butler on May 8, 2003 and is specifically designed for current BG Christian students who have exhibited a love and aptitude for science or math. Currently, this is our only academic-based scholarship.

Two $300 scholarships will be awarded each school year. One will be awarded for science and the other for math.  Students are selected based on their answers to questions on the student application, Christian character, teacher recommendation, and above all academic performance in the subject area. These scholarships are offered specifically for students entering grades 6- 12 and who have a passion and ability in these two subject matters.

Application deadline is March 31st of each year. Interested families must have "Enrolled" status with the school which includes a completed enrollment packet.
