— Balancing Big Dreams with a Bigger Heart
BG Christian Senior Spotlight | Christian education | Life-long discipleship

If you’re looking for someone who knows how to juggle—and not just metaphorically—you might want to sit down with Sydney Magrum. After all, balancing sports, academics, jobs, and leadership roles is practically her spiritual gift. As a graduating senior who began her journey at BG Christian all the way back in preschool, Sydney’s story is a testament to what happens when faith, hard work, and a community-centered Christian education come together to shape a life-long disciple.
From her first preschool craft project to her last senior seminar, Sydney has made BG Christian her home for over a decade. Along the way, she dove headfirst into so many activities our school community offers: volleyball, basketball, band, and choir. But one of her proudest moments? Serving as captain of the volleyball team and leading her squad to become the first team in BG Christian history to win their division. That’s the kind of legacy that spikes both volleyballs and school spirit.
Of course, Sydney didn’t just shine on the court or stage—she excelled in the classroom too. By her senior year, she was juggling multiple jobs, sports commitments, and college coursework through College Credit Plus (CCP), all while maintaining straight A’s. (Yes, we’re tired just typing that.) Her discipline and drive earned her not only academic success but also financial recognition—including a $5,000 merit scholarship and a $2,000 Falcon Achievement Award from Bowling Green State University, where she’ll continue her studies this fall. Sydney plans to pursue a degree in exercise science with the goal of earning a master's in physical therapy. Her passion for understanding how God designed our bodies to move and heal is clear—and her future patients don’t know how blessed they’ll be yet.
Along her BG Christian journey, Sydney encountered teachers who shaped her faith and thinking in powerful ways. Mr. Matthew Williams, her Bible teacher, encouraged students to slow down and think deeply, offering space to process faith at their own pace. Mr. Dylan Murphy, her English teacher, guided meaningful conversations that stretched her mind and heart. These kinds of mentors embody how BG Christian partners with families to help students know their unique identity and purpose in Christ—not just through textbooks but through life-on-life discipleship.
When Sydney looks back on what she hopes never changes at BG Christian, her answer is quick: the opportunity for students to take CCP classes on college campuses. Not only did it save her money (a true blessing), but it also gave her a jumpstart on her academic journey.
As Sydney prepares to step onto the campus of BGSU, she does so equipped not just with academic skills and athletic accolades but with a deeply rooted sense of identity in Christ. We’re proud of the leader she has become, and we’re confident she’ll carry the heart of BG Christian with her, whether she’s helping patients walk again or leading others by example in her community.
Congratulations, Sydney! Your story inspires all of us to dream big, work hard, and trust God’s purpose every step of the way.
