The Bruhl Family Story

"My children have been mentored by some wonderful teachers and staff, many of whom have become like family to us."
Family picture of mom, dad, and their kids on a beach.

It all began in 2011 when their eldest daughter, Emily, now a 2019 BG Christian alumna, started 4th grade. Since then, Steven and Laurel have watched all their children blossom at BG Christian – Josh (2023 alumni), Ethan (11th grade at Penta), and their current BG Christian students, Alexa (10th grade) and Michael (8th grade).

From participating in the Worship Team and Flag Corps to rocking the court in volleyball and basketball, or lighting up the stage in theater, the Bruhl kids have embraced so much of what BG Christian has to offer. The family's dedication extends beyond the classroom too! They volunteer for the school community in countless ways, and Laurel currently leads the charge as PTO President. Find out why they continue to call BG Christian Academy their school home…

Why did you choose BG Christian Academy for your children?

When we needed to move closer to Seneca County for work, we toured many schools, public & private as well as homes in Seneca, Hancock, and Wood County. When welcomed at BG Christian, we could sense the Lord at work and the character of the administration and teachers. My momma's heart was immediately at ease. The Lord then directed us to a home and the decision was made to enroll our children at BG Christian despite the commute to Tiffin. We have made that commute for 12 years now with no regrets.

What do you love most about BG Christian?

We are very appreciative of the character and hearts of some of the best teachers our children have had. While we highly value rigorous academic education, we value character development more.

What is one word that best describes BG Christian? Tell us why you chose that word.

Family. Over the many years of having had 5 very unique children journey through BG Christian's preschool through high school graduation, the school and families have become woven into each of their stories, and ours as a family as well.  My children have been mentored by some wonderful teachers and staff, many of whom have become like family to us.

In what ways have you seen your children grow and develop as a result of their experiences here?

From academic development, individualized instruction, and support to athletic opportunities and moral character development, my children's growth through BG Christian has been worth all the sacrifices made to send them here, both financial and with time.

How is the school preparing your children for college and life?

Our children have gained a healthy Christian worldview, while at the same time having been challenged with current cultural and secular worldview issues. Academically, they have been prepared and have opportunities to get ahead with College Credit Plus. This has helped with their transition to college as well as aid in scholarship opportunities. The moral character they have developed will serve them well in the future, no matter what vocation they are called into.

What would you tell another parent to encourage them to consider enrolling their child at BG Christian?

As parents, we want our children to learn with the goal of launching into the world well-equipped and knowing the Lord. One can find good academic education through many venues, but to learn Christian character and be educated in the ways of Christ it takes more than an hour or two on Sundays and an hour in the evenings. Discipleship throughout their school time and with peers and mentors is an invaluable component of our children's education.

Anything else you'd like to share?

No school or opportunity is perfect. One must decide what is of highest importance to their family and educating their children. One could argue that the cost is too high in private Christian education, but I would argue that the cost without it can be much much higher.
