Heidi Reger

Vice President

Heidi is a mother, wife, musician, and licensed Architect.  She is a frequent part-time instructor of Architecture at BGSU and the University of Toledo, and also served as an Academic Advisor and Architect Licensing Advisor at BGSU for about 7 years.  She is currently involved in several architectural and community related projects.  She holds a B.A. in Art and Architecture History with a minor in Flute Performance and a Master’s of Architecture both from Miami University (OH).

She has served on the BGSU Adjunct Faculty Committee (secretary), BG Area Community Band (publicity), and Black Swamp Arts Festival Youth Arts, among others. She has been a member of BG Alliance Church since 2001 where she is a Sunday School teacher, worship team member, VBS and AWANA leader. She and her husband, Matt, have been married since 2000 and have two children who have been attending BG Christian since 2011.  Heidi believes strongly in the Christ centered vision of BG Christian Academy.  She volunteers as a flute coach to students in band and architecture workshops. She has served on the board since November 2015 and was the interim secretary to the board in 2018.   Currently, she serves as Vice President (2018-present).

Heidi describes her relationship with Christ in the following manner: I came to Christ as a young child while attending a Baptist church in NYC.  My mom has told me that I said a prayer asking Jesus into my heart when I was about 5.  I wasn’t always sure of my salvation so I recommitted myself several times, even as I walked down the street, just to be sure.  I continued to grow in my faith as I grew older by voraciously reading and listening to Christian books and radio, attending church occasionally and camps plus 1 year at a Christian high school in Ohio and then Christian college for a year.  Mom homeschooled us so that she could give us a Christian based education.  I always planned on homeschooling or sending my kids to a Christian school so that they could learn and live for Jesus.  I was committed to marrying a Christian and we’ve been married for 18 years.

Michelle Davis

Resource Teacher

Hello! My name is Michelle Davis, and I graduated from The Ohio State University with a Psychology degree. I went back to school 2 years later to earn a Masters Degree in Teacher Education from The University of Dayton. I taught 4th grade in a public school setting for 9 years before making the decision to stay at home with my 2 young children. My husband and I made the decision to send our children to BG Christian, and I began working here in 2008 when my youngest started Kindergarten.

I have worn many hats (6th grade teacher, enrichment teacher, GEMS leader, and cheerleading coach) over my years at BG Christian, and I have loved every one of them. I enjoy working with students and discovering the different ways their minds work. It is an awesome thing to witness the "light bulb" turning on. I enjoy helping the students to set goals, and I love celebrating with them when they are accomplished! I have felt the love and support of the BG Christian families and staff for many years now, and it has been one of the biggest blessings in my life.

When I am not at school and the weather cooperates, you can find me paddling on a lake or river in my kayak or walking my dogs on park trails. I love to watch sunsets and enjoy the amazing ways God paints the sky for us.

Sheri deNijs.jpg

Sheri deNijs

Remedial Tutor

I am Sheri deNijs and I work as a remedial tutor at BG Christian.  I received my elementary education degree from BGSU and my reading endorsement from OSU.  Upon graduating, I worked in Columbus doing reading services for Columbus City Schools.  I started at BG Christian in 2005.

I have chosen to work in Christian education because I enjoy educating the whole child.  I especially enjoy helping a struggling student to overcome and do his/her best.

One fun fact about me is that after graduating from BGSU, I wanted to live and teach in a big city.  I really wanted to escape small town life.  I first started working in Columbus, but my desire was to eventually be in Chicago.  However, I met my husband in Columbus and we ended up back in BG.  Now I can say, I do enjoy living and working in a small town.

Christine Humphries

Social Studies Teacher

Hello!  I’m Christine Humphries and I am blessed to teach High School Social Studies and sewing. In addition, I am the Student Council Advisor and JH Quiz Bowl coach. My granddaughter, Brooklyn, has attended Bowling Green Christian Academy since 2016 and blossomed here. That is why when the staff opening became available, I jumped at the chance to be a part of something so wonderful! We love the school so much that my daughter, Kristin Hafner, now teaches at lower campus!

Before teaching at the Academy, I had retired as a Regional Vice-President with Hallmark and was enjoying my time off and traveling. However, for the past ten years or so I felt God’s call to the ministry. I just wasn’t sure in which capacity He wanted me to serve. But I now know that God had been preparing me my whole life to teach here as my ministry! I am blessed to be able to incorporate the Lord into every aspect of teaching!

One interesting fact about me is that I am first-generation American. I love to travel, read, play games, and spend time with my family.

My Name is Brad Schaser and I teach Science at the Upper Campus for sixth through twelfth grade. I started teaching in 2011. I was in public education for 14 years and now I really enjoy teaching science from a christian worldview.

My wife (Michelle) and I live in Fostoria and we have a son (Braden) who is currently attending Ohio Northern University.  I enjoy fishing, gardening, woodworking, and beekeeping.

Brad Schaser

Science Teacher

Cheryl Magrum

Math Teacher

Hello, my name is Cheryl Magrum! I teach advanced middle school math (pre-algebra for 7th grade) and all high school math courses (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, and Consumer Math). I have a real passion for math and love watching my students experience an “ah ha" moment when learning a new math concept. I started teaching at BG Christian in 2014 and can't imagine working anywhere else! Teachers and staff have a real  passion for educating and discipling young men and women on the path for Christ.

In addition to my teaching duties, I am also the lead teacher at the Upper Campus. This position gives me the privilege and responsibility of coaching students through various school issues. I also plan all the big trips including: 6th/7th grade overnight, TeenPact, HS mission trip to New York City, and HS trip to Washington DC.

Let me share a bit about myself: I am originally from upstate New York – I always have to clarify upstate because people will ask what happened to my accent. I don’t miss the 120 inches of snow we would get every year, but I do miss the hills. I earned my Bachelor’s degree from State University of New York (SUNY) College at Fredonia and earned my Master’s Degree from Bowling Green. I moved to Ohio in 1994, came to believe in Christ in 1995, and never looked back. I married the most amazing man ever in 1999 and we have two beautiful girls – Jenna (class of 2024) and Sydney (class of 2025).

Dianne Sitter

Spanish Teacher

Even though I was raised in upstate New York, I attended BGSU for both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. I had a teaching assistantship in graduate school, 1971-72. Throughout the years, I have taught Spanish at every grade level, from preschool (3-5 yr. olds) to 300 level classes in college. I also taught adult English classes to settled out migrant workers and Spanish classes at the senior center. In addition, I homeschooled my two sons for all of the elementary and middle school years and almost all of high school.

My love for the language and the culture developed during the time I studied in Spain. I did both undergrad and graduate work abroad and lived there for almost two years. In addition, I have traveled six times to Spain, five times to Mexico, once to El Salvador and once to Uruguay and many other countries. Some of these were mission trips. The reason I teach, however, is not my fondness of Spanish; it is my love for the kids!  Kids, kids, kids! There is nothing like them. I wouldn't still be doing this job if it weren't absolutely fun for me. I love teaching at the Christian Academy.

Steve Baney

The relationship between teacher and student is a relationship of discipleship. Like me, students are sons and daughters in God’s family, part of the body of Jesus Christ. A teacher's role in the classroom involves stewarding students toward spiritual maturity. When Jesus performed the act of service by washing his disciples' feet, he said, “You call me Teacher and Lord, and rightly so, for that is what I am” (John 13) In this case, our model teacher was showing the relationship between teacher and student is one of service, to raise and build the student up, so that he or she might follow after the teacher’s example.

The Holy Spirit inspired Paul to write to the church in Corinth: “Follow my example as I follow the example of Christ” (1 Corinthians 11). The teacher is an example to the students, both inside and outside of the classroom. Paul understood the importance of passing down the teachings when he wrote to Timothy: “the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others” (2 Timothy 2:2). This single text includes four generations of teachers and students, reminding us of the potential impact we have upon future generations.

Lower Campus Teachers

Kristin Hafner

4th Grade Teacher

Hi!  My name is Kristin Hafner and I am a 4th-grade teacher at BG Christian Academy.  I have been with the school in some capacity since 2016 and have been teaching 4th grade since 2019, after graduating from BGSU.

I love being able to help the students grow in their faith and develop strong Christian morals, while also having fun learning academically!  My own daughter attends BG Christian, and as both a teacher and a parent, I love the smaller class size and individualized attention that each student receives.

An interesting thing about me is that I was born in Ohio, but moved around a lot when I was young (10 times - 4 different states!). I eventually settled back here and currently live in Perrysburg with my husband, Toby, and daughter, Brooklyn.

Melanie Laughlin

1st Grade Teacher

My name is Melanie Laughlin and I teach First Grade!  I graduated from Bowling Green State University with a P-3 Early Childhood Education License and P-3 Intervention Specialist License.

I’ve been teaching at BG Christian since 2018 and have had the opportunity to teach both First and Second Grade.  I love watching my students as they continuously grow throughout the year and am ecstatic that I am able to help them along the way.  There is never a day that goes by that I am not impressed with the way they are thinking and are able to share their understanding and thoughts.  I went to Christian schools throughout my education until college, including here at BG Christian.  Each day, I knew that my teachers loved and cared for me.  They always gave endlessly of themselves, pouring into me academically and spiritually.  This was a large influence that helped shape me into the person and teacher I am today.  Knowing that I have the ability to give back in the same way, has been truly amazing.

A fun fact about me is that I absolutely love reading!  My love for reading and the ability to communicate so much through words encouraged me to write and illustrate my own children’s book as a project my senior year of college.  I was able to use my own experiences, thoughts, and feelings and put them into a book that I was able to share with students and faculty.  It was an incredible experience that made me even more passionate about books and strengthened my desire to help others find enjoyment in reading.

Beth Knavel 2.jpg

Beth Knavel

Kindergarten Teacher

Hello, I am Beth Knavel and I teach Kindergarten at Bowling Green Christian Academy. I graduated from Grace College with a degree in elementary education and later earned my Masters degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. I am married and have three children, a cat and a dog. I have taught every grade level from toddlers to second grade. I knew in fifth grade that God was calling me to be a teacher. I love teaching Kindergarten because I enjoy watching students learn to read and write! I began my career in 2000 in a public school district in Indiana before God led my family to Erie, PA where I was the director of a bilingual daycare. God then led us to Bowling Green where I was able to stay home with my own children for a time before becoming the Teacher/Director at a preschool here in town. I began teaching at BG Christian in 2014 and really enjoy teaching here! I love that I am able to talk to my students about God while also watching their excitement about Him grow.

When I am not at school, I like reading, spending time with my family and enjoying nature.

A fun fact about me is that I was born in the Blizzard of ‘78. My mom was the last one to arrive at the hospital via car. All of the others arrived on snowmobiles. My parents and I were snowed in at the hospital for five days after my birth.
