It may come as no surprise that this summer’s work of preparing for a new school year has been unlike any I have ever experienced in my now 15 years working in education. While it’s true that part of the reason for this has been the difficulty of obstacles, challenges, and unknowns, what I find myself experiencing in new and profound ways is the foundational truth of God’s all-powerfulness, or “Omnipotence”. As Jesus’ words in Matthew 19:26 tell us, just when it seems something we face is impossible for us, we find that we serve an all-powerful God, through whom all things are possible. Time and time again, our school leadership, faculty, and staff have seen God provide for, give wisdom in, and make possible a return to the classroom with our students. While we know the road ahead will still be met with its share of difficulties and challenges, we can meet them with grateful hearts, looking to a God who has seen us through and will continue to guide our way. I can’t think of a better truth of God’s faithfulness for our students to see and experience as we begin the 2020-2021 school year together. Just as our #NotAlone worship anthem during home-based learning was Matt Maher’s song, “Hold Us Together”, this school year’s theme is #NoImpossibleWithYOU, centered on Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 19:26, and the worship song, “No Impossible With You”, by the band I Am They.
